How to Create Momentum in Your Life

Sep 27, 2023

“You’re a tiger, you’re a bear, you’re a drunk monkey who hasn't slept in a week.” These are the words that allowed me to capture the real joy on the faces of the beautiful women.

At first, they had the usual plastered smiles on their faces that didn’t quite match their eyes. I came up with the saying to capture the childlike enthusiasm and pure human spirit I know these ladies had at that moment - they had all just become graduates of a rigorous 3-year Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Northwestern. My wife included :).

I proudly showed them the picture, and they all laughed excitedly and happy. They really appreciated the way a simple camera captured their genuine joy. I still consider this my favorite photo from that day.

The truth is, gaining momentum cannot be done without a dash of creativity. Your Emotional Health core requires it. The truth is everyone has natural creativity; there is no division between creative versus not creative.

I can agree that some minds are more inclined to tap into their creative sides, but that doesn’t mean others can’t do it too. Everyone has creativity, and paying attention to that part of ourselves is significant to gaining momentum and leading a happy and healthy life.

I love being creative; creating things makes me feel content. The best way to create for me is by turning abstract things into tangible thoughts, ideas, or objects that can make others go, “Woah, I didn’t know that could happen.”

This type of creativity can appear in my photos, as I showed earlier, or it could appear in my art, writing, and business. Creating makes me feel alive and gain momentum, and I love it even more when I’m sharing that feeling with others.

What is a Creativity?

Creativity is the ability to come up with new ideas or solutions. It is often associated with the arts but can be found anywhere, from business to science.

Some people are more creative than others, but everyone has the potential to be creative. There are several ways to increase your creativity, such as:

  1. Brainstorming With Others - Collaborate with others to generate new ideas and to maintain perspective in life, tapping into the collective creative energy and expanding your own thinking horizons.

  2. Taking On New Challenges - Embrace unfamiliar territory and push yourself outside of your comfort zone, as stepping into the unknown stimulates your brain and sparks creative thinking.

  3. Exposing Yourself to New Experiences - Immerse yourself in different environments, cultures, and activities, as exposure to diverse experiences broadens your perspectives and fuels inspiration.

  4. Keeping An Open Mind - Approach situations with curiosity and a willingness to explore alternative possibilities, as an open mind invites fresh insights and breakthrough ideas. Therefore, no matter what you have to be present minded in life.

  5. Practicing Creative Thinking Skills - Cultivate creative thinking through techniques like brainstorming, mind mapping, and free writing, encouraging your mind to explore unconventional paths and make unique connections.

  6. Using Creative Tools and Resources - Utilize tools such as art supplies, writing prompts (A.I. anyone?), or digital platforms to channel your creativity, providing outlets for expression and fostering innovative thinking.

What are the Benefits of Being Creative?

There are many benefits to being creative, both personal and professional.

On a personal level, creativity can help you express yourself, overcome challenges, build self-confidence, and deep connection. It can also provide a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction.

On a professional level, creativity can make you more marketable and successful. It can also help you solve problems, develop new products or services, live a perfect balanced life, and improve your work.

Here are a few ways you can tap into your natural creativity and build momentum:

  • Learn about your five cores and use creativity to nurture and care for them.

  • Remember that it’s about the journey, not the destination. Cherish every moment and focus on the now.

  • Focus on learning about what makes you happy, what brings you joy, and what makes you feel alive, and channel those feelings into creating beautiful things only you can make. You’ll feel magical.

If you follow these steps, you’ll be well on your way to finding the creativity that gives you life. It’ll make you feel like you have a superpower. Find your natural talent and feel that passion as you create.

So How to Create Momentum in Your Life?

Feeling stuck in life can be frustrating and demotivating. You may find yourself longing for that surge of energy and drive that successful people seem to effortlessly possess.

But here's the secret: momentum builds momentum. Just like a rolling ball gathers speed as it goes, building momentum in your life can make a big difference in your overall success and happiness.

So, how can you create momentum and get the ball rolling?

It all starts with taking small steps, building on your accomplishments, and infusing your daily routine with more energy. Let's explore practical strategies to create momentum, from prioritizing your to-do list to cultivating a mindset that propels you forward.

Building a Momentum Mindset: Strategies for Success

In addition to nurturing your natural creativity, there are several other key strategies you can incorporate to create even more momentum in your life. Let's explore some of these essential steps:

Start with Small Wins

Feeling stuck often stems from being overwhelmed by the magnitude of tasks or goals ahead. Break down your larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. By accomplishing these smaller goals, you create a sense of progress and build momentum to tackle more significant challenges. Using a clear habit journal will help you track your goals.

Prioritize One Task

Instead of multitasking and spreading your energy thin, focus on one task at a time. By giving your full attention to each activity, you enhance your productivity and efficiency. This focused approach not only helps you accomplish more but also generates a sense of momentum and accomplishment.

Celebrate Small Accomplishments

Acknowledge and celebrate the completion of each task, no matter how small. Recognizing your achievements boosts your confidence, motivates you to keep going, and generates a positive feedback loop of momentum.

Create a Supportive Environment

Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your goals and aspirations. Their energy and support can be contagious, propelling you forward and providing the encouragement you need during challenging times.

Additionally, consider decluttering your physical and digital spaces to create an environment that fosters focus and clarity.

Embrace Forward Movement

Progress doesn't always have to be linear; it's about moving in the right direction. Even small steps forward contribute to your momentum. Allow yourself to make mistakes, learn from them, and adjust your course. The key is to maintain a mindset of continuous improvement during your self growth journey.

Take the Final Step

Often, the final step or action is the most challenging. Push yourself to complete the task at hand, even if it feels uncomfortable or uncertain. By taking that final step, you break through barriers, gain a sense of accomplishment, and open doors to new opportunities and even more momentum.

Remember, building momentum in your life is a continuous process. It requires commitment, consistency, and a willingness to explore your creativity and push beyond your comfort zone. With each step, you'll find yourself gaining momentum, achieving more, and creating the fulfilling life you desire.

Summarizing

Creativity is the key to creating momentum in life. Everyone has this innate ability, and by embracing it, we can achieve happiness and fulfillment.

Take small steps, celebrate accomplishments, and maintain a growth mindset.

Let creativity guide you, and watch as you gain momentum and lead a fulfilling life. Keep the magic alive by creating and cherishing each moment.

Let's build momentum together!
